Before giving the nail scissors to the creature when the nail scissors are not useful:
say "'Thanks, but I don't need this anymore.'[paragraph break][c]What am I, a library?' the creature snaps. 'Very well, I'll trade it in. [rummage through misc items] Oh, I don't know what this is so maybe you can have it then.'[line break][paragraph break][The creature] throws you a small vial.";
remove the nail scissors from play;
hand the potion vial to the player;
stop the action.
