Part 5 - Environmental messages
The dog behavior rules is a rulebook. The dog behavior rules have default success.
To decide whether the dog is indoors:
if the location of the dog is in the hotel interior or the dog is in the cable car or the dog is in the Engine room:
decide yes;
decide no.
To decide whether the dog is outdoors:
if the dog is indoors:
decide no;
decide yes.
A dog behavior rule when the dog can see the inedible sausage and (the holder of the dog is in the holder of the sausage or the dog is in the location of the dog) and a random chance of 1 in 2 succeeds:
say "The dog sniffs the sausage but apparently judges it inedible.";
rule succeeds.
A dog behavior rule when the player is carrying the edible sausage and a random chance of 1 in 2 succeeds:
say "The dog sniffs at the sausage and drools."
A dog behavior rule when the dog is sick and the dog is indoors and a random chance of 1 in 5 succeeds:
say "[one of]The dog winces audibly. He doesn't look too well.[or]The dog drags his butt across the floor.[as decreasingly likely outcomes]".
A dog behavior rule when the dog is sick and the dog is outdoors and a random chance of 1 in 5 succeeds:
say "[We] spot the dog trying hard to poop, unsuccessfully. There must be something wrong with him."
A dog behavior rule when the dog is outdoors and a random chance of 1 in 3 succeeds:
say "[one of]The dog digs the ground.[or]The dog finds something and sniffs the ground intensely before losing interest again.[or]The dog finds an interesting smell and rolls around on it.[or]The dog closes his eyes and sniffs the wind.[or]The dog marks a nearby bush.[or]A squirrel runs past and the dog darts after it. He returns soon after losing his prey.[or]The dog thinks he sees something and barks briefly but then seems to forget anything ever happened.[as decreasingly likely outcomes]".
A dog behavior rule when the dog is indoors and a random chance of 1 in 3 succeeds:
say "[one of]The dog walks around, his long toenails tapping on the floor.[or]The dog sits down.[or]The dog lies down.[or]The dog sniffs something, inhales dust and coughs loudly.[or]The dog starts to lick the floor.[or]The dog finds an ant on the floor and starts pawing it until it's dead.[as decreasingly likely outcomes]"
Last every turn when the player can see the tame dog and the current action is not looking (this is the dog behavior stage rule):
if a random chance of 1 in 2 succeeds:
